"Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in God. I will praise His word, in God I have put my (entire) trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me" (Psalm 56:3-4)
In or around 2017 when I returned to Alabama after living nine years in the Chicago suburbs, I was with a group of friends at house church praying and meditating on the Lord. I had a vision that so impacted my life and the Lord often brings it back to my remembrance to remind me of His total and complete care in which I can rely. To refocus my “eyes” back on Him, my total reality.
In the vision, I was at the bottom of a very steep and treacherous mountain and about to embark. It looked bleak and I felt so afraid and lonely, until I felt someone beside me standing and ready to take the journey with me. It was Jesus. He reached over and took my hand and though he didn’t really say anything, I knew we were taking this journey together. All fear dissipated and I knew anything I would encounter would all be taken care of – as long as I had Him by my side.
The side of the mountain was so steep extremely rocky, yet without any effort on my part, we walked the arduous journey until we reached the top of the mountain. He first, reaching down to pull me up – I got to the top and everything was cold, devoid of life and all I could see around me was barrenness. He knew what I was thinking and said “Suz, open your eyes to see the beauty in the way, the beauty around you. Notice the view.” Then, he went over to a corner and the next thing I knew, he had a fire going and he was cooking fish for our meal. He just smiled at me as if to say “I Am all in all. All you need for anything. See through the apparent emptiness, difficulty in the way to Me, your all in all through every situation. And I will feed you with My own hand.”
Beloved, look to Me for all!
He then spoke to me:
“Live in a place of gratitude; hold tightly to Me, nothing else. This will keep you walking lightly, not bound to this earth or earthly things, even people. Look to Me as all-sufficiency. Take My hand in this day, for each moment – as you did on the mountain. You let go and effortlessly followed after Me as I took you up the mountain, without strain, striving or anything of self-dependency but leaning wholly on Me; then I fed you with My own hand. In the abandonment of all things in apparent barrenness I made provision, for I Am all provision. Never look to self to do what only I Am to do for you. You will never have My best for you if you live that way. Instead, abandon all and follow Me, taking Me only. I Am the only Life. Hold tightly to My hand and walk with me. Trust Me, absolutely. Lean not to your own understanding. I will make the path plain before you, one step at a time. Cling to Me. I Am the way, truth and life. Go above the gravitational pull of circumstances and how you “feel” and gain heaven’s perspective. Come up higher as you trust Me, walk with Me and My will will unfold in the moment. You don’t need to “know” ahead, simply trust as a little child. This is the adventure of living with me moment to moment.”
He then told me that “I teach my people in modules.” I meditated on that for some time as I asked Him to unpack this to me. He showed me that we know Him by degrees, from one thing to the next. Even in and through difficulty, even in “apparent” grief or barrenness, this is the stuff of life, He is using everything to bring us to Himself, the “full knowledge of His son” (mature sons).
Life is not about our careers, businesses, jobs, future, past, this or that – it’s about living with Him on the journey of the present moment and about loving and being there for others along the way. To making the time count! Each and every moment. And to look to Him for all. Not others, not the government, not a spouse or ourselves. He is sufficient.
What will you do with the moments He gives you?
